UAE - Yoga Alliance Global Research

UAE
I am successfully continuing my business tour in the UAE and Asian countries.
I would like to return to the global study of Yoga Alliance presented a year ago, as the UAE is in the list of 10 countries of this study.
Therefore, I am happy to write this special post for my audience in the UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi).

UAE results of "Yoga in the world" (2023)

In contrast to the results of Europe, England, the US, and Brazil, the majority of yoga practitioners are men. In fact, the UAE is the leader in this gender indicator in this study. Nearly 70% of yogi in UAE are men.

And I have seen the truth of this data, seeing women on the streets, in the subway, in restaurants. Obesity, unhealthy complexion, low energy, sagging skin, lack of trained muscles, dull eyes... Although, many of them were 10-20 years younger than me. It is obvious that they already suffer from many diseases and have a "bouquet" of ailments in their medical records. It is not clear what exactly this is connected with: cultural differences, society beliefs, simple prejudices, lack of education, or something else, but it certainly does not benefit women in the UAE.
It is therefore not surprising that 65% of those surveyed in the UAE who practice yoga said that yoga was recommended to them by a doctor or health professional.
Unfortunately, this means that people come to practice yoga not by the call and enthusiasm of the soul for new knowledge, mastership of body/mind/soul, and enlightenment of the spirit. But because they are no longer healthy physically or mentally.... This is consistent with the top 5 reasons (or health problems) identified by "Yoga in the World", motivated respondents in UAE to start practicing yoga:
  1. Overall health improvement
  2. Stress relief
  3. Body flexibility
  4. Personal development
  5. Physical therapy and general fitness
Surprisingly, losing weight is not the main motivator (last ranked in UAE results). Although, I have observed many fat people in the cities of the UAE. Either they do not understand the need to get rid of excess weight and the burden on the body, or there are some strange local beliefs that a fat person is luckier or smarter? :))
I would advise them to study scientific research on this issue (obesity and diseases, excess weight and life expectancy, obesity and Alzheimer's statistics, obesity and diet type, etc.).
